How it all started - Our UNATHI Journey 2017-2023.
In March 2017, Ruy B.A. Camargo and Daniel Storm, business partners in international market expansion, ventured to the "Nairobi Innovation Week" at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
With a keen interest in uniting global business and social ventures through a blended approach, recognizing agriculture's pivotal role in community resilience and broader social and environmental effects.
During a panel at the event, William N. Gitau discussed with international scholars and academics, agriculture's influence on community stability, health, and youth employment, citing his grassroots initiative, HELITECH Agri-Campaign CBO, just 50km north of Nairobi.
Intrigued by William's dedication and vision, Ruy and Daniel engaged him post-session, scheduling a visit to William's community.
Said and done, a few days later, they journeyed to meet William’s team, local farmers, and families, witnessing the transformative work being done despite significant challenges and constraints. Inspired, they conceived a social impact incubator, meshing their vast business acumen with social innovation and financing.
Over the following months this collaboration eventually gave birth to UNATHI, leading to the establishment of an "UNATHI Social Enterprise" in Switzerland in summer 2018, while preparing first projects spanning agriculture, health, and education, to be implemented with partners across East Africa and Brazil.
Overcoming Adversities.
But the positive momentum and developments came to a screeching halt only a few months later, when Daniel suffered a severe accident, incapacitating him well into 2019.
William faced significant disruption following the passing of his father, the ensuing distribution of the family farming estate, and the subsequent impact on his community work.
With plans to revive and continue UNATHI in late 2019, along came the global COVID-19 pandemic, putting yet another obstacle in the path of implementation.
Relaunch 2023+.
Leveraging the significant ideation, effort, and resources invested since 2017, we are now set to send UNATHI on its journey into 2024 and beyond. We are currently in the process of validating options for headquarter location, and identifying key funding and implementation partners.
